Through a transdisciplinary curriculum that includes shared seminars in diverse learning communities, and individualized work within your chosen specialization, you will enhance your ability to address issues of equity, ethics, and social justice to bring about solutions to complex problems of practice.
Conduct in-depth inquiry into currently pressing questions about the relationship between our professional practices, the land base, and natural resources required to sustain these practices, as well as the larger sets of law, policy, and normalized procedure that organize and orient these practices systematically in either more or less sustainable forms.

The challenges facing us require resource managers who can bring diverse stakeholders together to solve complex environmental challenges. Communities, organizations, and decision-makers need guidance and facilitation on how best to prepare for climate change, ensure water and food security, and approach energy and materials management sustainably.
Antioch’s Resource Management and Administration (RMA) degree embraces an interdisciplinary approach to addressing complex challenges, and it is designed to prepare students to lead and manage projects and organizations in the environmental field. RMA is specifically training students for professional positions within a regulated environment, which is informed by the influences of political and economic systems.

This concentration prepares students for work and/or graduate studies in a wide range of fields, including social entrepreneurship, community development, social change advocacy, environmental stewardship, climate change activism, urban environmental education, public policy & law, urban design and government agencies (departments such as parks, utilities, social services or neighborhoods).
A highly interdisciplinary concentration, Urban Ecology engages students in the study of political economy, food systems, environmental justice, cultural studies, policy studies, urban planning, education and social change. This program educates students to take innovative leadership roles with communities facing the challenges and opportunities of dense urbanization, a growing urgency for social justice, and quickly evolving environmental conditions.

This innovative program recognizes the unique needs and realities of our local and regional human and ecological communities. Students receive the necessary training to become effective change-makers who can envision a socially, economically, racially, and ecologically just future. Urban Studies is offered as a major or minor area of concentration of the BA in Liberal Studies degree at AU’s Los Angeles campus.
Our Urban Studies Concentration explores and celebrates the unique needs, lived experiences, and realities of our human-made and natural communities. The Urban Studies curriculum incorporates the study and practice of political, historical, cultural, ecological, legislative and economic analysis, social movements and revolutions, as well as media and the arts. Students are engaged in learning from and interacting with the people and communities who represent and impact our environment and experiences, training to become effective change-makers who solve problems and enter real-world careers in social justice.

Do you want to be more effective and employable as an agent of change for equity, inclusion, and justice? If you have training in community development, labor studies, law enforcement, criminal justice, public safety, or paralegal studies, Antioch’s Bachelor of Applied Arts in Urban Communities and Justice (BAAUCJ) is the ideal degree for you. Because we recognize the value of your prior training, the BAAUCJ accepts professional credits that other degree programs do not transfer in.
Through coursework and hands-on learning, you will gain skills in community organizing, social change-making, environmental and economic sustainability, and leadership. You’ll explore how race, gender, citizenship, and age, as well as social and economic disadvantages, impact our communities.

Conservation Psychology is an emerging interdisciplinary field that promotes a scientific approach to understanding the reciprocal relationships of human beings with one another and the more-than-human world with the explicit aim of enhancing environmental and biodiversity conservation. Through coursework, this certificate introduces students and practitioners to conservation psychology approaches and tools.

Educating the next generation of environmental leaders is essential to long-term sustainability efforts. This certificate will give you a solid foundation in educational techniques that can be used to inform others about the many actions that are currently being taken to save our natural environments and combat climate change. Coursework involves community ecology, environmental education, and field
techniques, along with an internship to apply these skills in a professional setting.
This 12-credit certificate takes place in person at the Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center in Minnesota.
Through community, workplace, and campus gardens, make healthy food accessible in every community to increase food security, mitigate climate change, and build community resilience. While this passionate and growing movement is gaining momentum, we still have a lot of work to do before every citizen has equal access to the fresh fruits and vegetables that should be a staple of their diets. We’re here to help you empower people to connect with the sources of their food, practice healthy eating, and build communities with a high degree of food security. In doing this work, we will strengthen personal, communal, and environmental resiliency and health.

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are increasingly used for policy-making, scientific, administrative, educational, and recreational purposes. As GIS has become a vital decision-support tool, the national and international need for qualified professionals has grown at an unprecedented rate. GIS expertise is extremely portable because the methods of working with these data and tools are largely the same across applications.

Organizational sustainability, leadership, and management skills are essential in nearly any environmental context. We’re here to help you gain the leadership, organizational management, facilitation, and community engagement skills to succeed in a variety of nonprofit, non governmental, academic, governmental, and/or for-profit organizational contexts. Understanding both internal and external organizational issues of justice, human rights, inclusion, and sustainability are essential to social responsibility and leadership.
